Another Name for the Quran
The Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, has many names. Another name for the Quran comes from certain verses in the Qur’an itself which use certain terms to refer to the Qur’an itself.
Other names of the Qur’an are:
Al-Kitab (holy book)
There is no doubt in this Book (Al-Qur’an); guidance for the pious (QS. Al-Baqarah [2]: 2)
Al-Furqaan (the difference between right and wrong)
Glory be to Allah who has sent down Al-Furqaan (Al-Qur’an) to His servant, so that he may be a warner to all the worlds. (QS. Al Furqaan [25]: 1)
Adh-Dhikr (warner)
Indeed it is We, even We, have sent down the Remembrance (of Allah), and verily, We keep it. (QS. Al Hijr [15]: 9)
Al-Mau’idhah (lessons/advice)
O mankind! Lo! There hath come unto thee a lesson from thy Lord, and a cure for the diseases of the breasts, and a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (QS. Yunus [10]: 57)
Ash-Shifa ‘(medicine/healer)
O mankind! Lo! There hath come unto thee a lesson from thy Lord, and a cure for the diseases of the breasts, and a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (QS. Yunus [10]: 57)
Al-Hukm (rules/laws)
And thus, We have sent down the Qur’an as a rule (truth) in Arabic. And if ye had followed their desires after knowledge had come unto you, then would ye have no protector or guardian against Allah. (QS. Ar Ra’d [13]: 37)
Al-Hikmah (wisdom)
That is some of the wisdom that your Lord has revealed to you. And set not up another god beside Allah, lest ye be cast into the Fire, despised and turned away. (QS. Al Israa ’[17]: 39)
Al-Huda (instructions)
And verily, when we hear the guidance, we believe in it. Whoever believes in his Lord, then he does not fear the reduction of reward and (also fear) the increase of sin and guilt. (QS. Al Jin [72]: 13)
At-Tanzil (revealed)
And indeed this Qur’an was really revealed by the Lord of the worlds, QS. Asy Syu’araa ’[26]: 192)
Ar-Rahmat (bounty)
And verily, the Qur’an is a guidance and a mercy for the believers. (QS. An Naml [27]: 77)
Ar-Ruh (soul)
And thus do We reveal to you the Spirit by Our command. You did not know what the Book was before, nor did you know what the Faith was, but We made it a light, by which We guide whom We will of Our servants. And most surely you guide to a straight path. (QS. Asy Syuura [42]: 52)
Al-Bayan (illuminator)
This (Qur’an) is an enlightenment for all mankind, and a guidance and a lesson for those who guard (against evil). (QS. Ali Imran [3]: 138)
Al-Kalam (speech)
And if one of the polytheists seeks refuge with you, then protect him so that he may hear the word of Allah, then take him to a place that is safe for him. That is because they are a people who do not know. (QS. At Taubah [9]: 6)
Al-Busyra (Good News)
Say: “The Holy Spirit (Gabriel) sent down the Qur’an from your Lord with truth, to strengthen (the hearts) of those who believe, and as a guidance and good news for those who submit (to Allah)” . (QS. An Nahl [16]: 102)

An-Nur (light)
O mankind! Lo! There hath come unto thee the Truth from thy Lord. And We have sent down to you a clear light. (Al Quran). (QS. An Nisaa ’[4]: 174)
Al-Basha’ir (Guide)
This Qur’an is a guide for human beings, a guidance and a mercy for people who believe. (QS. Al Jaatsiyah [45]: 20)
Al-Balagh (delivery/news)
This is the perfect news for mankind, and that they may be warned by Him, and that they may know that He is the One God, and that men of understanding may take heed. (QS. Ibrahim [14]: 52)

Al-Qaul (words/speech)
And verily We have sent down unto them this Word in succession, that haply they may take heed. (QS. Al Qashash [28]: 51)
